Peer support groups for carers
Carer Gateway can help you to meet people who also care for a family member or friend. By sharing stories, knowledge and experience, you can learn from and support each other.
Carer Gateway offers two options to connect with other carers:
- In-person peer support groups – meet with others in your local area who also care for a family member or friend.
- Online community forum – join the online written discussions to engage with other people who also care for a family member or friend.
In-person peer support groups
Carer support groups enable carers to meet with other carers in their local community in a safe and supportive environment.
The groups are led by a facilitator who will work with your group to design and run a program with topics of interest to you, and also give you opportunity to build connections with other carers.
To find out more about the in-person peer support groups available near you, call Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and select option 1 to speak with your local Carer Gateway service provider. They will register you with Carer Gateway and start the planning process.
Online community forum
The online community forum gives carers a safe, moderated space to come together and ask questions, share advice and experiences and gain emotional support.
You can read through previous discussions, or create a login account to start a new discussion topic or add to an existing discussion.
All forum users remain anonymous and there are trained moderators to ensure the space is safe, friendly and helpful for everyone.
